I saw an Indian girl at the airport last night with her hair braided in what I suppose would typically be considered a Black hairstyle.
It got me thinking about the whole cultural appropriation thing in the US and how that kind of thing really isn’t a big deal over here.
I figure it has something to do with the fact that aside from being an Indian person or African person or whatever, we have a unified culture that is Trinidadian that we all identify with. And I don’t really think that exists in the US. So everybody’s jockeying for ownership of their own unique culture (which is fine I’m not criticizing it) whereas here, everything is everything (and everyone’s).
