Ever since I started with enamels I’ve been trying to find the right expression for what I wanted to create. I tried different things and when I finally figured out my aesthetic, I had to figure out the technique to create it. So I’ve been doing that for the past two months. Trying to crack the code. And today I finally did it.

I was preparing the last piece I was going to fire for the day when I made a last minute decision to do something I hadn’t yet tried. I popped the piece in the kiln and watched through the window as the enamel slowly flowed across the surface. I took it out and let it cool and then examined it and oh my god, it worked. I finally was able to get the effect I’d been looking for!

I’ve stared at that little piece of glass-covered copper all day today just marveling at it. I know this is just the first step before I really perfect the technique, but I can finally stop searching and start creating. I’ll be freelancing until Friday and at UpMarket all day Saturday so I won’t get back into the studio again until Sunday but I cannot wait. I am so damn psyched.
