Every time some big sports event happens, I kind of lament that I don’t follow sports, don’t have a team. I love the camaraderie of being a supporter, the passion, the rivalry, the being part of something greater than yourself. But I also find it to be a time consuming activity and quite frankly it would be perplexing to know where to start. For me it would have to be football (soccer for you heathens,) but first I’d have to pick a team (can’t they just assign me one?) and follow the games and know about the players and learn how to shit talk to people on other teams. That sounds like picking up an entire new hobby from scratch though. Right now I’m really trying to get my watercolour painting technique down. Maybe once I perfect that I’ll have time to focus on football. Perhaps by the time the next World Cup rolls around I’ll have it down pat. I guess until then I’ll just be a fan of being a fan.
