I had this vision of a ring with a stone set in what looked like a crevice, something organic that looked like rock. I decided to make a prototype today in copper and set a turquoise in it. A little something I was was finishing in the studio today… a Sterling silver #spinner #ring with three silver bands, the middle of which has a tiny 3mm moonstone. The band is flared so the spinners don’t come off. This is great for those of you who love to fidget! .

So… I think I wanted more transparency. So the solution is either to layer the enamel on thinner or to use lighter colours. I’m thinking thinner layers. Today I’m working on some hammered pendants and earrings. I love working on pieces like this but all this hammering has my arm really sore! Not to mention the fact that my ears are ringing from all that noise.

I’m working with copper and brass, both of which can get really hot when drilled. My solution? Heat resistant gloves! They make things a little clumsy but at least I’m not burning my fingers. Thankfully I’m on my last piece now. Then the fun starts! I get to adorn them 😀

I have my little treasure cache now of copper pebbles that I painstakingly polished and sealed to keep them from tarnishing. I used one in a necklace yesterday and I quite liked the look. Thinking I might make more of these. They’re kind of a pain but they’re certainly unique. Can’t beat one of a kind.

The necklace is made of glass beads, turquoise rondelles, round carnelian beads, copper beads, a handmade copper pendant with verdigris patina, a handmade copper pebble and faux suede.

My mom’s boyfriend’s birthday is coming up this weekend and I wanted to make him something. I had done some etchings in copper about six months ago so I cut one out and domed it using my mortar and pestle. I put a patina for contrast and added some beads in silver, coral and marquesite. I hope he likes it. I have no idea how to design jewelry for men.

I had this Japanese incense I bought in Cambridge a couple of years ago. Each box came with a tiny little ceramic stand which of course I immediately lost. So I decided to make myself a little stand out of copper clay.

I made the texture using two molds, a mold of a tree bark I had made a few years ago, and a little sprig of a tiny evergreen tree we bought about a month ago. I added four little curved legs and fired it up in the kiln and voilà! A little copper incense burner.
