Cleaning out and cleaning up all the pieces I’ve made that have never made it to the seller’s table, and I came across this adorable ring. Made with a thick sterling silver hammered band embellished with a tiny golden brass bee. All cleaned up now, I hope it finds its new owner soon ☺️ 💍🐝 #jewelry #handmade #silver #ring #hammered #bee #artisanaljewelry #buylocal #trinidad #caribbean

A piece of hot metal burnt a hole in my favourite apron yesterday. Maybe time to update to a leather apron now… cause that could have been my leg. #safetyfirst
I stumbled upon this reddit post whose author uses data from this post to create a quiz featuring ALL the questions from the pottermore patronus test to give you your “best fit” patronus.
As we know with the ilvermorny and hogwarts tests, there is a huge difference in accuracy when comparing a quiz with all the questions available vs when taking it on pottemore with a limited and varying questions, and a lot of people were unhappy with their patronus because they thought it didn’t fit their personality.
Chris has a co-worker here from India and we’re taking him to a movie later because he’s never been to an IMAX theater.
We went out on both Friday and Saturday nights and I’m really regretting committing to this but the tickets have already been purchased so we’re gonna have to get our tired asses up and go.

I like the Kardashians but I don’t perceive them as iconic (other than in the fashion and marketing sense) and what strikes me about this whole thing is the fact that its random people who say these things, then people who dislike them bring it to the forefront. I guess I don’t see why people just don’t ignore them; take the attention away and stop feeding the fodder.
Well to be honest, it’s really hard to ignore them they seem to be everywhere. I don’t hate them but I find I’m bombarded with them
Last night I heard a cat fight outside and I swear I heard Charlie’s bell. I was convinced he got out and didn’t sleep well as a consequence.
When I woke up this morning he wasn’t responding to my call and when I opened the patio door I saw him stuck in the neighbour’s tree meowing plaintively. I got him down and cleaned off his filthy fur and he’s here in the bedroom with us now.
The only place he could have gotten out was the ventilation bricks by the ceiling. How he got up there is beyond me but it’s my only guess. I guess from now on he’ll be sleeping in the bedroom and staying there when he’s alone. Geez I forgot how much drama it could be to have a cat. I’m glad this reminded me. I’m not gonna be getting one of my own anytime soon.
I left the bedroom door open by accident tonight. Chris came home and found Charlie (the cat) in there and thought I wanted him there so he locked him in.
When we got home I put him outside and he’s been meowing intermittently outside the door for the past hour trying to get back in.
It’s 3am.
This is why letting him into the bedroom was a bad idea. We take our sleep seriously around here. Shhhh kitty you’re not getting in.
10lbs in 5 or 6 weeks is awesome, especially given you’ve built muscle! It took me about five months to lose 20lbs, and that’s working out about 6 hours per week. I’ve got about 5-10 to go but damn is that last bit hard to lose.
Oh wow thanks for the feedback that makes me feel really good! The last time I was on an exercise regimen I lost about 20lbs. in three months. But I wasn’t keeping track of my progress, so this time around I didn’t know what to expect. I’m glad to hear that it’s good progress, thanks!
That baby did the complete opposite for me. And he smiled and blushed at me! I melted, eee.
That’s because you have baby fever. Ro was telling me who the daddy is…. I was like okayyyy…. I doh know how people does do dis open relationship ting.
Usually three times a week about an hour of cardio each. I started off gaining weight in the beginning as I was building muscle so I went up about five pounds or so and stayed there for a while and have now started losing.
Charlie has decided that his new home will be behind the large koi aquarium.
I’ve decided to keep him out of the bedroom. I had him here this morning and he wanted to go outside so I let him out. He then started making a racket for me to let him back in. I can imagine having to deal with that at 3 in the morning. Nah.

of endless arguments about diversity in fiction? Sick of hearing that
POC couldn’t exist alongside magical creatures? This campaign is for
you. Wear it to a con, slap a sticker on your laptop, and make your

This is Charlie our guest kitty. He was dropped off last night and unlike the last time he came to visit (he was decidedly freaked out) this time he walked into the apartment as if he owned it.
He’s about 8 months old and a very talkative little cat. He’s quite sweet and affectionate too.
I let him into the bedroom this morning so he’s exploring, that’s why I can’t get a good picture of him.
He’ll be here for two weeks until his mummys (twin sisters) come back from vacation.
I’m at my friend’s store and this woman just walked in with a baby and I suddenly felt really uncomfortable like I had to watch my language or something around it.
Sooo I was all excited to see Tim Burton’s new movie (“Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children”), and then THIS happened… 🙄
Now I feel dotish (Trini slang meaning “foolish/silly”) for not realising how bleached and pale white ALL his films were before and reading between the lines.
So now I gotta stuff him in the same category with Marc Jacob’s ignorant, racist ass smdh.
Why Tim, Whyyyyy?! 😩
Wow how dare Tim Burton not be a racist asshole like yourself? Thanks for making me like him even more.
To be fair stuff like Corpse Bride and Sweeney Todd were set in times before African and Caribbean immigration to England, and this new film was set in Wales in 1940 repeating the same day again and again, which is also before immigration. There could have been more diversity in Edward Scissorhands as it seems like 1960-70s America though.
@ima-fuckingt4ble do these people ever think for a second about the story they’re trying to shove diversity into?
Apparently no lol
Has anyone even read the book? It takes place on a Welsh island that has had the same families on it for generations, including the children of the orphanage who are all from surrounding islands.
Who lives in Wales? Welsh people. What are the majority of Welsh people? White. What time period is the orphanage stuck in? WWII. What was happening in WWII? On the European front, white people fought white people.
Use context clues. Read the source material. Don’t be a progressive fool championing for things that don’t suit the setting or story.
^^^THANK YOU! was going to comment this if someone didn’t.
It’s an amazing book set in a place with majority white people. Why would he make characters black/Latino/etc????
Diversity is nice, but it should at least make sense with the setting. Having a black gay trans Muslim character as a nobleman in medieval France wouldn’t really make a lot of sense.
Bigoted ppl never cease to amaze me, I swear! Clearly you folks are all so busy explaining why POC couldn’t be included in this film that y’all forgot that the VILLAIN is a black man, which was NOT the case in the book! So obviously Burton CAN change/include things when it suits him, he just chooses NOT to do so in any way that’s acceptable/uplifting to POC in ANY of his 36 films. 🙄 And then compounded it with an excuse reeking of racism and insensitivity. Smfh.
Y’all act like Britain was a homogenous place up until recently. POC have been living in Britain and the rest of Europe since at least the Middle Ages. Stop acting like POC weren’t invented yet. FURTHERMORE, it’s fucking fiction. You can do what the fuck you like with FUCKING FICTION!
Well a guest kitty anyway. I’m cat-sitting for a friend for two weeks. I’m excited to be getting a furry creature to play with. He’s still young so I anticipate some disasters but nothing I can’t handle. Yay a kitty!

Why Tim, Whyyyyy?! 😩
I doubt Tim Burton gives a fuck
There aren’t any POC in the books…
Dear black people: not everything is yours. You don’t get to run the show every time.
Dear RACIST: People Of Colour don’t care about running the show EVERY time. We just want to be represented when we pay to watch movies just like all the pale white ppl in all of Tim Burton’s movies are represented. If you weren’t a bigot, this would make sense to you. It takes a true racist to see a Director neglect to include POC in any meaningful way in ALL of his films and then double down on it with an insensitive excuse and be in support of all that. Somehow the White Supremacist in YOU concluded that the problem is black people being bossy, when the problem to any logical, non-bigoted human being is racism. So bottom line, the problem is you’re a racist, @idealpose. 🙄
Well thanks for bringing this to my attention. Not fucking gonna see it. Putting my money where my mouth is.
My migraine from hell seems to be gone but I am still getting sinus pressure so we’ll see. I realised a few years ago that as improbable as it seems, my migraines seemed to be affected by the weather, specifically changes in air pressure. I noticed that they seemed to come on as day turned to evening and the temperature got cooler, and my sinuses would react as well. Eventually after doing some research I found out that this can happen. And the past few days we’ve had a weather system approaching Trinidad and it’s really been affecting. It’s like I’m a human barometer or something. I need to find a way to put this to good use and make some freak show money.
I saw this post on my dash (with commentary, dw) and there was one thing that I didn’t see addressed in the comment chain that I really feel needs to be
Once an artist creates a work, they own the copyright
None of this “I paid for the art. It is mine.” bullshit, unless the artist actually sells you the copyright (something which has to be stated and never assumed, and something you would have to pay extra for) you can not claim ownership over the piece, even if you paid for it.
And yes, this means you can not alter the work in any way, you can not use it for banners/advertisements/etc., you can not print it, you can not sell copiesunless agreed upon with the artist
and artists are also protected under moral rights
meaning that the artist has the right of attribution (the right to be identified and named as the creator of
their work), the right against false attribution, and the right of integrity. (Source)
so fuck off with your “I paid for the art. It is mine.” crap, it doesn’t stick legally
Reblogging for important information. Artists, you have legal rights to your work by default. Don’t let your clients bully you.
Buying art is not buying the rights to the art. You CAN sell the rights to art, but I’m sorry to say,op, it involves a signed agreement from the artist to waive all rights. It also adds another zero to your price tag.
As much as op wants to think commissioning art is like buying a bowl at the dollar store and prying the ugly flower off the side, the world isn’t quite that fluffy in your favor.
a more accurate comparison than buying a fucking apple would be to buy a copy of a book in a store, then post the whole story word for word online, and never mention that its not actually yours. just bc you bought the book doesnt mean you own the story, its the same with art, you cant just do with it whatever you want lmao.

#13TH was directed by Ava DuVernay, who gained popularity after directing historical drama film Selma about Martin Luther King Jr and 1965 Selma to Montgomery voting rights marches.
I’ve been in a pissy mood the past few days and now I have a gigantic migraine to go with it. It’s absolutely not improving my mood in any way shape or form. I yelled at Chris tonight about chores, cooked dinner, couldn’t finish it because I felt nauseous, and so I’m laying here half expecting my brain to explode. This day can go fuck itself.
I got up today and I just couldn’t handle my hair any longer so I gave myself a haircut and chopped off about 1-2″ of dead ends. I usually just hold each curl and snip the ends. This time I combed it out and made sure the ends were all even and it looks really full and healthy now. I know I said I was going to go to a salon but I couldn’t wait. Currently dyeing the roots now. Blah blah blah.
It’s not exactly re-registering as it is just updating the info if you move. It changes the polling location and they won’t let you vote if your info doesn’t match theirs.
Oh. Well here is the same thing. But is it mandatory? Like I’m registered to vote where I used to live, by my parents’ home. I never officially changed my address so in the last elections I still voted there even though I live elsewhere.
Also, our voting system is simpler. One person one vote, most votes win the seat, most seats win the election – The End. Our electoral college doesn’t get involved in swaying the actual numerological results. The whole electoral college vs actual votes by real ppl thing in the US is a source of fascination to me
It is for me too. I remember my teaching explaining it to us in middle school and our minds were all boggled by the idea that even if you had the most votes you could potentially still lose. It’s all so complicated.
I guess voting in Trinidad is a lot simpler (probably because it’s a small place). You register once and that’s it. You can change where you vote if you move but you don’t have to re-register.
I was asking because I always see so many drives to get people registered and it got me curious as to what the process was. Clearly it’s not simple. And we don’t have primaries so there’s that too. But thanks for your answers it helped me get a better understanding.
The title of Ava DuVernay’s extraordinary and galvanizing documentary 13TH refers to the 13th Amendment to the Constitution, which reads “Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States.” The progression from that second qualifying clause to the horrors of mass criminalization and the sprawling American prison industry is laid out by DuVernay with bracing lucidity. With a potent mixture of archival footage and testimony from a dazzling array of activists, politicians, historians, and formerly incarcerated women and men, DuVernay creates a work of grand historical synthesis.
NAHA, OKINAWA PREF. – Coins issued in ancient Rome have been excavated from the ruins of a castle in a city in Okinawa Prefecture, the local education board said Monday, the first time such artifacts have been recovered from ruins in Japan.
The education board of the city of Uruma said the four copper coins believed to date back to the Roman Empire in the third to fourth centuries were discovered in the ruins of Katsuren Castle, which existed from the 12th century to the 15th.
Okinawa’s trade with China and the Southeast Asian region was thriving at the time and the finding is “precious historical material suggesting a link between Okinawa and the Western world,” the board said. Read more.
I have a friend who is fluent in French, Spanish, and English, but she didn’t want to learn a new language during high school so she took French and pretended she didn’t know it. Long story short, her first year didn’t count because the principal found out so he made her take Spanish and when I walked her to Spanish on the first day, she walked in and said, “Hoe-La uh-me-goats!” And personally I believe she might pull this off
Update: after two weeks of pulling it off, the teacher asked her to read something in Spanish and she forgot that she was supposed to sound inexperienced, so she read the whole thing in perfect Spanish. Her counselor is now considering transferring her to German

Not *quite* the same thing but: When I was six years old, my family moved to Brazil for a few years for my Dad’s work. I went to a private American school while there, and had to take Portuguese lessons a few times a week at school. I figured out fairly quickly that when kids reached a certain level of proficiency in the intro class, they got moved up to the more advanced classes – where they got homework and tougher assignments etc.
I reasoned (at six years old) that I would have no real use for Portuguese once I got back home to Canada, and since the intro class was super easy and fun, I decided I wanted to stay in that class forever (or until we left the country to go back home, rather) – so I pretended to be ignorant of most of the vocab and grammar they were trying to teach me (side note: the teacher really thought I was super dumb, I could tell).
But I got caught one day when the whole intro Portuguese class went to the library (which we did not normally do), and I was so happy to be there and to get a chance to read all the Portuguese-language books they had picked out for us, that my enthusiasm got the better of me when they asked various students to read the books out loud and then explain what they had read. Well, I had picked out a fairly advanced book – and proceeded to read it almost perfectly and then demonstrate really good comprehension after that.
The teacher was so pissed off (visibly) he transferred me to the advanced Portuguese language class right on the spot (like, he marched me down there to the other classroom and put me in there).
When I was in college one of my requirements was a foreign language class. I had just spent three years taking high school French and really wasn’t in the mood for another semester of French grammar, so I decided to take Spanish instead. Of course I’m already fluent in Spanish, but they didn’t know that.
The only classes available were at 8:30 on Saturdays. I rarely ever made it to class and when I did I made sure never to participate. I actually showed up to my final half an hour late and finished before everyone and handed in my test and left with the teaching eyeing me like I was crazy. I aced it, got my credits and fulfilled my language requirement.
Last night someone came into our apartment and stole the money out of Chris’s wallet. I can’t say they broke in because Chris accidentally left the front door unlocked when he went out for bread yesterday morning.
The intruder also seemed to be looking for food because he took down several boxes of dry goods I had on a shelf and put them on the counter but didn’t take any of that.
Nothing else was touched. He left the wallet and its other contents intact and put it back in his jeans. Chris’s laptop was in plain view on the living room table and remained there, as did my iPad and all the jewelry in my studio, our electronics, and gardening equipment.
The neighbour downstairs told me that the cupboards he keeps under a covered tarp in the driveway was disturbed but nothing was missing (all it had was a one ring burner for outdoor cooking which he’s since removed).
The security camera facing the gate did not pick up anything so the person must have jumped the wall and gone sniffing around and tried our door and found it open. I’m trying not to rip Chris a new asshole for that, but he does it on occasion. I’m sure he will not be doing it again in the future.
I went from feeling scared this morning to feeling really angry about having my peace of mind disturbed. I realise it was probably just a piper (vagrant/addict) looking for some quick cash but it means we have to be more vigilant. I just want to fucking move. I hate where we live and this has just given me more reasons to hate it although I know this kind of thing can happen anywhere. I am just glad it did not turn out to be a worse situation. We’re getting a security system.
Way back in 1929, President Hoover approved a proposal for a National Memorial Building for African American achievements in arts and sciences — but Congress did not. Congress didn’t officially pass an act to erect a federally owned museum until 2003. Ground wasn’t broken until nine years later, with a little help from President Obama.

My hair seems to be changing textures. The curliest part of my head has always been my crown but it has been growing out in a much looser texture in the past six months… hair is so weird.
Also I noticed that my ends are going sort of blond. I think it’s time I pay some money for someone to cut and colour this mop… I haven’t had it professionally done in a few years. It needs it
Just… I wish he was here to talk to. I miss his voice. I guess it’s getting close to Christmas and we’re gonna have another family vacation again and he won’t be there again. And I’ve just been thinking of how much I miss him today. I really do…
Someone emailed me on Etsy (she’s from Tobago) asking me for help with how I calculated my shipping rates.
My initial reaction was to get kinda pissed off. I went down to the post office myself and asked a million questions and did my research to figure how to set my shipping rates. It took some work. I thought of helping her on some level, then I considered not answering her. In the end I advised her to go to her local post office and ask them everything she needed to know.
Like, I’m all for sharing information but fuck put some goddamn effort into it.
99-year-old Ruth Bonner, a daughter of a young slave who escaped to freedom, opened the National Museum of African American History on Saturday, September 24.
lol, reminds me of when I wanted boiled eggs on Thursday. Put the water on and everything. Got to the fridge, no eggs. It’s only been me in the house this past week.
Well I’m in charge of the groceries so it’s my fault I guess lol
First, MLK was relentlessly investigated by law enforcement authorities on suspicion of being a Communist. His supporters were abused and murdered by both civilians and law enforcement over the years. The FBI spent vastly more resources trying to demonstrate that he was causing riots as a paid agent of Soviet Communism than they ever spent investigating the endless murder threats to his life. And, of course, the FBI mounted multiple sting and other investigations to expose and exploit his all too human flaws, particularly his cheating on his wife. His life is hardly a good model of police-citizen relations.
Second, King faced endless, brutal criticism for the peaceful protests he led. Lots and lots of (mostly) white people insisted that now was not the time to protest, that social and political change would best happen at its own pace, over a long period. Heck, has anyone actually read “Letter from Birmingham Jail”? The whole thing is a response to a letter published in the Birmingham paper in which white ministers asked why an “outsider” like King would come to Birmingham to lead protests, leading to his famous response “I am in Birmingham because injustice is here.” There is never a convenient time for protest, or an acceptable way to demand change from majorities that like things the way they are. Martin Luther King may be an American saint now. But he wasn’t when he was alive. Let’s not kid ourselves.
Third, is it now required that we all be Martin Luther King? Is it required that we all have the patience to endure endless harassment and violence in order to be “worthy” to protest? Do remember that King himself had largely abandoned the philosophy of nonviolence at the time of his assassination. For example, he was only in Memphis in April 1968 supporting a direct action strike by sanitation workers in the city, an action LOTS of people would have called violently disruptive to the health of the community. His movement only seems beatific in retrospect, through the lens of the rioting and social chaos that ensued his marginalization in the later 1960s and 1970s. There are no perfect protestors even when there is much to protest.
I do not think the Martin Luther King, Jr., you remember is the Martin Luther King, Jr., who actually lived.
