Fun fact! Ravens and Wolves have a symbiotic relationship!
While the wolves feed, the ravens keep watch for and alert the wolves of incoming animals that might threaten them. In return, the wolves leave some food behind for the ravens. In between feedings they’re known to travel and play together.
I learned this a long time ago, sorry I don’t have any sources.
That thing where my gf and Chris’s friend were dated ended a while ago.
I’ve known her for over ten years but I’ve never really seen up close what she’s like in a relationship. And because I knew him too, I was seeing it from both sides.
What I saw is that she has the emotional maturity of someone ten years younger than she is. She’s the reason men think women are crazy. And I hate saying that. Because we get slapped with that label sometimes the minute we show an ounce of “negative” emotion. But she did and said things that were so disproportionate to the things she was reacting to. She handled herself so poorly. She angered and embarrassed me. And I lost so much respect for her. I don’t even know how to move forward with our friendship because I can’t ignore what she did but I can’t address it either. It too much. She’s way more fucked up than I had any inkling of. I’ve always been a big sister to her, someone she came to for advice. But what can I say to someone when they have it so terribly wrong and don’t even realize it? Where does that conversation start? I don’t know but it’s too overwhelming. I think I’m just not going to have it and leave her to learn her lessons in her own time.
I knew they were a bad idea. Now I don’t even know if I can salvage this friendship. Some things you just can’t overlook.
My enameling supplies have arrived at my freight forwarder in the States and are making their way down here. I’m impatient but I can only wait so I’m the meantime I’m devouring every bit of information I can find on the topic.
I’m in one of my obsessive phases again. I’m even dreaming about making stuff. I like it when I get all fired up. Last time it was water colours and calligraphy, which I am still very excited about but right now I don’t really have the time to devote to it.
My style is changing to a much more minimalistic one. I’m entranced with circles lately, and simple abstract flower shapes. This is subject to change like, tomorrow of course as I shift gears quickly and often. But that’s where my head is at now. There and mixed metals. Gold and silver. Copper and silver. Dark patinas. I’m excited to go into the studio tomorrow. I also have some new tools on the way for some techniques I want to try. It’s a good thing I actually make money doing this cause it would be a very expensive hobby otherwise. Thank god it pays for itself.
When I was young, women were raped on the campus of a great university and the authorities responded by telling all the women students not to go out alone after dark or not to be out at all…Some pranksters put up a poster announcing another remedy, that all men be excluded from campus after dark. It was an equally logical solution, but men were shocked at being asked to disappear, to lose their freedom to move and participate, all because of the violence of one man.
“The United States Mint and Treasury have unveiled a new gold coin that portrays Lady Liberty as a woman of color for the first time in American history.
In “a departure from previous classic designs,” the new coin portrays Lady Liberty as a black woman wearing a crown of stars. The coin is inscribed with “1792,” for the year the U.S. Mint was established, “2017” and “IN GOD WE TRUST.” The reverse side of the coin contains a “bold and powerful eagle in flight,” according to the press release.
The 1-ounce coin will be struck in .999 fine 24-karat gold at the West Point Mint facility in New York. It is the first in a series of 24-karat gold coins that will feature designs representing Lady Liberty as Asian-American, Hispanic-American and Indian-American. The coins will be issued every two years.”

Sooo I was all excited to see Tim Burton’s new movie (“Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children”), and then THIS happened… 🙄
Now I feel dotish (Trini slang meaning “foolish/silly”) for not realising how bleached and pale white ALL his films were before and reading between the lines.
So now I gotta stuff him in the same category with Marc Jacob’s ignorant, racist ass smdh.
Why Tim, Whyyyyy?! 😩
While I understand that this sucks and I’m disappointed he would say this, the characters in the books are all mainly white anyway, which also kind of sucks. What we should all be REALLY mad about is that he switched Emma and Olives powers which ruins plot details of the other books if they decide to make more movies!!!
Ok sooo… what you’re saying is that although the racism and lack of diversity is sucks… the real travesty in your mind is a plot/character shift? 😐
My bad. What was I thinking getting all worked about a silly thing like racial bias, and the exclusion/vilification of all non-white ppl? We gotta think about the sequels, y’all! 🙄
NO! Thats not what I mean. It does suck that there isn’t a diverse cast. I just meant that it goes with the characters of the book. So the real problem I think stems from the book itself and thats where the diversity needed to be started in the first place, had the characters in the book been more diverse, then the cast of the movie might’ve ended up that way as well. Also had it been a different director considering Tim Burton seemed to not give a fuck at all.
With all due respect, THAT was NOT what you said originally at all… but excuse me for a minute while I digress. I’ll get right back to this point though.
Also, the real problem is the racist culture deeply rooted in western society and glorified in films and television for the entire history of the western film/tv/entertainment industry.
Not the book. Or the movie. Or Tim Burton not giving a fuck about POC, yet being celebrated as a “great” director. Or that given the racist culture of Hollywood, most other directors who would be hired to take on that project wouldn’t do anything vastly different.
And finally, let’s pick back up where I left off in Sentence One…
Maybe you suddenly got foggy on your own words but your main point in your original post above was literally that “what we should all be REALLY mad about is that he switched Emma and Olives powers which ruins plot details of the other books if they decide to make more movies”.
Why are you back-pedalling now and trying to minimise/sanitise your very clearly stated point? 🤔

4. I find joy in creating and making things and it’s something I really like about being me. It brings me the utmost personal fulfillment, whether I’m in the kitchen whipping up something out of whatever I have laying around, or in the studio creating artwork or jewelry. I just like making stuff.
5. I’m committed to always growing as a person. I’m always trying to expand my horizons. Always reading or learning about something new, trying to teach myself a new skill, improve on myself as a human being. I am never stagnant.

Favorite music artists/bands: I can’t say I have a favourite. Whatever I’m into at a certain time is it. I really love music from the era when I was a teenager (80′s-early 90′s) for nostalgic reasons, I love classic rock, and I really like a lot of electronica like Zero 7, Morcheeba, Nightmares on Wax, Bonobo. But to be honest, for the past few years I’ve not been into music much at all which is odd and surprising since I used to sing and songwrite at one point (as a hobby of course).

its 2:31am. im thinking about the fact that ive never met a woman who hasn’t been treated like shit by a man. u ever think about that? u ever think about the fact that its a defining experience of womanhood to be subjected 2 the cruelty of men? that every woman knows that fear, that pain, that anger, that sadness? nothin breaks my heart more than that
I made them yesterday, I’ll try to remember what I put in them because I didn’t use a recipe. I took two cans of tuna and one can of salmon (cause that’s all we had), drained them (one can had corn and diced peppers) and added one chopped onion, about two cloves of chopped garlic, chives, Worcestershire sauce, a little bitters, paprika, herbs de Provence, salt and pepper to taste. I added three eggs and enough flour to where the consistency felt right (slid off the spoon in one blob) and fried a tablespoon sized blob in med-hot oil on each side. I squeezed lime over them and we ate them alone, with mango chutney, garlic sauce and ketchup. I was partial to the mango chutney. Cold I’m just having them plain. If you try them out let me know!
The moving tribute doesn’t just feature celebrities, but also regular Americans talking about their favorite Obama moments from the eight years he was in office. As you already may have guessed, you’re going to need the tissues for this one.
“You see Joe’s heart in the way he consoles families, dealing with cancer, backstage after an event; when he meets kids fighting through a stutter of their own, he gives them his private phone number and keeps in touch with them long after. To know Joe Biden is to know love without pretense, service without self-regard, and to live life fully.
As one of his long-time colleagues in the Senate, who happened to be a Republican, once said, ‘If you can’t admire Joe Biden as a person, you got a problem. He’s as good a man as God ever created.’” —President Obama awarding the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor, to Vice President Joe Biden
I have a teeny tiny sliver of silver embedded in my left index finger. I can’t see it and I only feel it if I my finger touches something just the right way. I can’t even find it if I run my hand over it, it’s that small.
I’m just kind of wondering if my skin will eventually shed and release it, or if it will be enveloped and my skin will just grow over it, in which case I’m wondering what the health ramifications are of having a microscopic piece of silver under you skin.
I’m just curious. If it comes out it comes out. If it doesn’t then… well I guess I hope It doesn’t kill me.

I just saw this post on the Portraits of America blog about anti male-circumcision.
I had noticed that my nephew was intact and asked my sister if the hospital staff didn’t try to encourage circumcision. I’ve heard of cases of doctors just doing it without the parents’ consent.
She told me that they really laid down the pressure on them to do it and kept pushing. My brother in law was very adamant that he did not want his son circumcised and eventually the hospital staff backed off, but not before delivering a host of warnings about how terrible it is to not be circumcised.
It’s a cultural preference of course but I think it’s really wrong to pressure parents to perform an operation that mutilates their child. The consent issue is the biggest problem for me. If someone wants it as an adult then they should do it but I don’t think it’s right to cut off a part of a person’s body when they can’t say no. Of course I also don’t think it’s healthier or cleaner (it’s part of your body it’s there for a reason) but that’s debatable. Consent it not. It really is a practice that should stop.
You know that feeling when you get settled into your car, set your GPS to this new location, push play on your favorite song, and then your GPS interrupts it every 2 seconds to tell you how to get out of the neighborhood you’ve lived in for the last 15 years? That’s what mansplaining feels like.
I think this is a really interesting concept, but I get the feeling it assumes that soulmates do this for each other.
In my experience, one person does this for the other, but it doesn’t always mean the learning and growth is reciprocal. Like, maybe you’re not your soulmate’s soulmate. And maybe you’re someone’s soulmate, but they aren’t yours.
Maybe if you and your partner can’t make this reciprocal, the two of you aren’t soulmates at all, and you just have to learn to live with that fact.
Also, I don’t think all soulmates are romantic. I definitely have some friends who I consider soulmates.
In my experience these kinds of relationships/friendships can be very challenging. I think the soulmate concept is very romanticized.
I was walking my dog today and this little boy stopped to pat her and was asking questions about her. He wanted to know where I got her and I said she was adopted from a shelter.
Boy: Have you told her yet?
Me: What?
Boy: Have you told her that she’s adopted?
Me: Yes, she knows.
Boy: That’s good, you should never keep a secret from a dog.
I know what you mean about not crossing positive associations of wide noses. A shame since there’s no such problem with narrow, straight noses that I know of.
I hope we can reach a point where wide noses are normalized in the narrative without needing to be assured it’s something positive and attractive. I do think, though, if you note or describe her as beautiful, all the while mentioning her wide nose somewhere in a description of her, then you’d be fine.
As long as you’re keeping negative associations “away” from her nose so to speak and aren’t attributing it to masculinity (Black women being connected with masculinity is almost always rooted in misogynoir) or animalistic.
Otherwise, you could use a combination of positive and/or neutral words in your descriptions to imprint the idea that you’re describing her (and her nose!) favorably.
I’ll spin up a list for ideas, though all the following words might not apply to her as wide noses have a variety of appearances and can be short, long, pert, etc.
Adjectives for wide noses
Ample
Broad
Button
Full
Prominent
Round
Short
Short-bridged
Small
Soft
Wide
You could also pair positive adjectives with her nose or her face in general, such as attractive, cute, beautiful…
Just note those words are judgments, i.e. “Telling” description that do not convey a specific physical image and is also a matter of opinion (and imagination). Though probably best used sparingly, if you’re wishing to “direct” the audiences’ perspective as you are here, they could prove helpful!
Some example sentences:
“She was attractive; warm brown skin, even warmer brown eyes, a cute, rounded nose…”
“…Her short, wide nose centered prettily on her face.”
“She had a broad, attractive nose that went well with her delicate features.”

One of my stepsons friended me on FB the other day. I get along well with all of them but I get along with him best. But I was really hesitant to add him because I wanted to be sure his mother didn’t have access to his account (long story short she’s nuts). He assured me the other day that he was no punk and kept control over his own Facebook account and she better not try it. So we’re Facebook friends now 🙂
So all of my friends’ Instagram feeds are filled with pictures with Anthony Bourdain and I’m really resentful than not one of them called me to come along and meet him.
Honestly I don’t really think I’m all that creative. I’m crafty, I like making stuff, I have some artistic skills I’ve honed over the years, and a little natural talent. But when I think of creative I think (and maybe I’m setting the bar a little high) of artists like Picasso or Van Gogh who revolutionized the art world. What they did was new and had never been done before. They literally created new movements in art.
I guess it comes down to how you define creative. For me it’s having original thoughts and ideas, and I don’t think of have a lot of those. But I don’t think many people do, for the record. Most everything out there is just recycled something else. You get inspired by a thought or an idea, a piece of art or jewelry and you use it as a jump off point to make something that’s your own.
Then again I’m probably assuming too much about Picasso and Van Gogh. Maybe they were borrowing too. Maybe we all are. Maybe it’s putting your own new twist on something old that makes it creative. Maybe my definition is too rigid.
I just like making the world more beautiful. And I like trying out new things, learning new skills, and seeing how they all sort of fall together. I truly admire artists with a singular voice or vision. I don’t have either. I’m just meandering along pleasing my soul. That’s enough for me 🙂
“I’m not trying to protest dresses, but I wanted to make sure that young girls and women knew that they weren’t a requirement. You don’t have to wear one if you don’t want to. Just be yourself because your worth is more than that”. [x]
Man of the moment Keanu Reeves has shown his generosity by giving away £50 million of his earnings from the Matrix sequels. The 38-year-old decided to hand over the money to the unsung heroes of the sci-fi blockbusters – the costume and special effects teams.
*fistbump*
Confirmed. He’s also dumped millions into cancer research. I really do love Keanu Reeves a lot.
Keanu Reeves is like the nicest person. He still lives in an apartment/flat and he gives most of his money away to charities and people who need it. He even invites some paparazzi people to sit down and eat with him when he’s at a coffee shop or restaurant. He’s such a nice person.
When I was working on the UWS, one of my delivery guys accidentally backed his scooter into a parked car in front of the restaurant. I went out to help, since the driver didn’t speak much English, and it turned out the car belonged to Keanu Reeves. He helped us pick the scooter up, and when I asked if we could exchange insurance information (because the front of the car was pretty banged up), he kept telling us not to worry about it and put his hand on the driver’s shoulder and said “I just want to make sure you’re okay, man. Are you okay?” And he was so sincere about it and so kind that I decided in that moment I would always defend Keanu Reeves at all costs. He is an excellent man.
I need to be more like Keanu Reeves because I’m evil compared to him.
“-for the next few centuries”. Confirmation he IS a vampire (it’s not like all those paintings didn’t already prove it).

Do you say you “read” the book when it’s an audiobook? I’ve started listening to them while I work to supplement my reading but I don’t know what you say if you half read half listened to a book.
I started following a few food stimming blogs recently. It started with this one video of someone icing a cake with really thick chocolate frosting. And on the top of the cake they made a deep swirl design. I found it mesmerizing, soothing and relaxing and I watched it over and over again. I came across a few blogs with videos like that quite by accident the other day and followed them. It’s mostly videos of people frosting cakes or icing cookies. It kind of gives me same feeling those paint mixing videos give me. I can’t really explain why it makes me feel all relaxed but it does. Humans are so weird man.
Many of you may remember the amazing family I worked for years ago. This amazing family of 8 are some of my favorite people on this earth. I took care of their son Jones, who suffered a traumatic brain injury, from the time he got home from the hospital until I moved. This family changed me. Made me a better person. Taught me blind faith and offered me unconditional love.
Yesterday they came home to their house in flames. They lost everything including three pets, one animal was Jonesy’s companion dog.
They need help. If you can donate, please do. If you can’t, please reblog.
I was finally getting back to the messages I had in my inbox on my business FB page today. This one guy had asked me the price to something (he posted a link of the picture and the link to the price was right under it, sigh) so I told him and he replies, “So delivery is free?”
I was like lol no. I mean, you can’t even order a pizza and get free delivery here why would jewelry be free?
Yeah so I had to let him down. Nice try though guy.

"A YouTube clip of a Q&A at Comicpalooza in Houston captures a fan named Heather Skye thanking Stewart for his 2009 Amnesty International speech about domestic violence against women. She then asks him “Besides acting, what are you most proud of that you’ve done in your life?”
Stewart takes the opportunity to speak about his own experiences growing up and why he is so dedicated to the cause of stopping domestic violence. “The people who could do most to improve the situation of so many women and children are in fact men. It’s in our hands to stop violence towards women. I do what I do in my mother’s name because I couldn’t help her then. Now I can.” Stewart works with a British organization called Refuge that provides safe houses for victims of domestic violence.
Stewart also speaks about his recent discovery that his father suffered from post-traumatic stress after WWII and this contributed to his violent behavior. To honor his father, Stewart also works with another British organization called Combat Stress which helps soldiers returning from war zones deal with mental health issues.
After Skye mentions that many women are blamed for the violence forced upon them, Stewart explains, “As a child I heard in my home doctors and ambulance men say ‘Mrs. Stewart you must have done something to provoke him. Mrs. Stewart, it takes two to make an argument.’ Wrong. Wrong. My mother did nothing to provoke that. And if she had, violence is never, ever a choice a man should make.”"
We went to a Hindu thing today (it has a name but I don’t know what to call it). Basically they do prayers in honor of the person who passed away and then they serve food afterwards to all the guests.
So we skipped the prayers and got there for the food, which was expected. It was Chris’s friend Slim, whose wife suddenly passed away last January two months after they married. He wasn’t into the prayers either but he had to do it. He just wanted us to come so we did and took 17 with us.
So I haven’t been to a Hindu anything since I was a child. Apparently they don’t serve the food on real banana leaves anymore, you get what would be the equivalent of a paper plate, a paper banana leaf that’s waxed on one side that they put all your food on. Worked just as well. We ate with our hands even though I was offered a spoon (ha no). There’s a technique to eating with your hands but I don’t have it down yet. But at least I didn’t make a mess and get food all over myself. One guy moved his leaf forgetting it wasn’t a plate and caught his curry pumpkin just before it hit his lap.
We came home stuffed. Nothing like some good (vegetarian) curry for Sunday lunch. I’m glad I went.
2. Think about how you were feeling at the time, or what was driving you to act in that way.
3. Related to this, try to identify the underlying need, or the motive behind the thing you now regret. (For example, respect from others, approval from others, wanting to feel good about yourself, wanting to pay another back, and so on.)
4. Express your regrets and attempt to make amends if your words or your actions have affected someone else.
5. Think of how you’ll change and will act differently, if the same situation occurs again. This is the real person that you truly want to be.
6. Write yourself a caring and empathic letter where you forgive yourself, and tell yourself you can move on.
7. Remember that your human – and we all have deep regrets; and we’re all on a journey – for there’s non-one who is perfect.
“penguin was just a small, wobbly headed magpie chick when my son, noah, found her lying injured on the grass after being blown out of her nest. she was very lucky to survive such a horrendous fall but without immediate care would have died within a day.
“we built her a simple nest and kept her warm with a tiny blanket. noah immediately named her penguin, due to her black and white plumage. it is not easy to look after any injured wild creature [so] we undertook a great deal of research about magpies and were extremely grateful for all the specialist veterinary advice we received, especially in regard to penguin’s diet.
“while getting penguin to eat was a real victory, her recovery remained touch and go. but over time she grew in both stature and confidence.
“as penguin’s strength grew so did her curiosity. we never locked her inside any kind of cage so she was always free to venture outside the house. it didn’t take long before she started to forage for her own food in the backyard and it was clear she was becoming increasingly independent.
“despite being free to leave she still chose to sleep inside the house for at least six months. fortunately there is a large frangipani tree in our yard that penguin always felt comfortable in, so that became her home. however if we ever leave a window open she’ll fly inside the house at sunrise and scamper down the hallway to one of the bedrooms and jump into bed.
“australian magpies are known for their beautiful songs and penguin began singing short songs during the day from a very early age and would eventually sing for hours and hours at a time. whenever we’d pull up in the driveway she’d let out a loud and melodic warble to welcome us home then flap her wings with excitement and run straight to the front door to be let inside.
“while she will always be a part of our family penguin does not belong to us. the world is hers to explore and she regularly travels elsewhere, sometimes for days at a time. we won’t see her for a while and then, without warning, she confidently walks in the door as if nothing has changed.” (source, edited for length)
