“Somewhere, somehow, you will get there. No matter what it takes. If you put your heart and soul into an end destination, it will happen, for the power of these combined is stronger than anything else.”
Let’s say your matrilineal line is fairly consistent and everyone has their daughter at 25. So four women in your matrilineal line are born every hundred years. In a thousand years, that’s only 40 women. Like the math is so simple and yet ? You don’t think about it. So in 2000 years, 80 women. So basically, 0 AD started roughly about 80 mothers ago. That’s it.
I’m……… i’m a little drunk n cannot deal with this right now
Yep
The advent of agriculture around 9500BC was about 450 mothers ago
you can’t just say shit like that without a warning
Many, many mothers ago, when the world was new….
Many of the notes here are saying “But women used to have kids earlier”
Okay. So, assume every woman had her daughter at 20 instead.
That’s five mothers in a century.
Fifty mothers in a thousand years.
One hundred mothers in two thousand years.
That is five hundred and seventy five mothers since the dawn of agriculture.
Less than six hundred women, between you and the dawn of civilization.
You are never so far from your ancestors as you think.
The recently reconstructed Cheddar Man – the one with dark skin and curly black hair who is the oldest known modern Briton – has also had science done comparing his genome to living people.
They found descendants. Ten thousand years later, Cheddar Man’s many-times-great-grandson lives a mile away, teaches history at the local school, and still has the family nose.
That’s like four hundred generations. Same valley in Somerset. Same face. Ten thousand years.
I just finished reading this tonight. I’m a big fan of This Is Us so when I saw she had a book out I was really eager to read it. The style is part self- help book, part life story and ALL wonderful. She really is exactly like her character on the show. She is sweet and loving and kind and funny and vulnerable and beautiful inside and out. I had the audiobook and that was an added bonus because her narration was wonderful. I left the book feeling like… a) I’d made a friend, b) I felt so much better about myself and my life path, and lastly c) I was really, really sad for our time together to end. Read this. It’s lovely.
I woke up early this morning and did some grocery shopping. I’ve never done grocery shopping in the morning in my life but ah ketch ah vaps. I discovered Massey has coconut bake buns and on a whim I bought some corned beef, stirred that up in some tomato and onions and that was breakfast. Lemme tell yuh… Bess breakfast. Now ah studying if to have the rest for dinner. I not even hungry. It was just dat good.
I’m a little enamoured of this photo right now… I just want to get lost in it. That’s a gold filled Herkimer diamond ring in this teeny size five band. Some lovely (tiny) lady is getting a nice surprise ❤️ 💍 💎 . .

I’m working on another corset ring, this time I sterling silver. I’m so nervous I don’t want to mess it up. Also I love drilling on this piece of pine 🌲 wood… when the drill bit goes through it I get the lovely scent of the pine 🙂
I was just opening a can of condensed milk and made a mental note to get a new can opener as some of the teeth were stripped.
I remember seeing automatic can openers on tv as a kid and thinking it was the height of American decadence.
Chris bought one a few years ago. I always had a hard time getting the can lined up justso with the mechanism to get it to work and after several tries I’d think, well I could have bloody opened it myself by now. The chord got damaged and it stopped working and I happily went back to the manual one. Some things are just too fancy for me.
I was gonna post this on my businesses Instagram this morning. But then it was like, who are you kidding that’s not what your Instagram is about. It just seemed like a good idea, but yeah it’s not my style to post inspirational shit like this. However I did like the message. How often do we actively decide to have a good week? We drag ourselves out of bed and into work and greet the week with grudgingly. I like the idea of focusing my mind on having a good week. I feel more positive already. Let’s do this!
I decided to catch up on Call The Midwife tonight. I knew they were introducing a Black West Indian midwife character so I was kind of excited.
She was lovely. I was disappointed that they didn’t make her Trinidadian but not surprised, there are many more Jamaicans than Trinis in England.
I occurred to me that I know people who went over to train as nurses in England during that wave of immigration. Some of my parents friends, for example. They portray her existence as quite solitary but West Indians tended to live and congregate in the same places. My father sailed to Ireland for university during this time with many other Trinidadians who he lived with and went to school with. As West Indians tend to do, they made friends easily and spread their culture everywhere they went. This was particularly true of London, and much West Indian literature is devoted to recounting the stories of those early days of adjusting to the English ways and weather by that first wave of immigrants.
I know the show isn’t focused on immigration, but it’s nice to see us represented, as there is no West Indian who does not have a relative that lived in England at some point. We were there. We still are.
Despite spending the first half of the morning curled up in bed either reading or napping. thinking I would never get up, I’ve managed to have quite a productive day. I did some work, did some laundry and am now deep conditioning my hair. And watching Queer Guy, I’ve been taking my time to slowly watch the season bit by bit. I lurve it.
Lemme go wash my hair out and take my clothes out of the dryer. And figure out what I’m gonna do about dinner. Happy Sunday!
“Don’t take anything personally. Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won’t be the victim of needless suffering.”
“Find someone who loves you well. Someone who never belittles you. Even in the heat of an argument. Someone who is gentle with you, but does not treat you like you are fragile. Someone who knows what you are capable of, and celebrates those pieces of you. Not someone who is intimidated by your strength. Someone who doesn’t make you feel guilty for being flawed. It is not love’s job to punish you. And remember the person you love is just as broken as you are when they fall short. No one is perfect – do not hold them to this standard. Find someone who is patient, forgiving, and apologetic. Someone who practices forgiveness freely and often. Love someone who is humble, kind, and empathetic. Not only with you, but with a beggar on the street, or a stranger in the supermarket. Common courtesy is important. Compassion is important. Kindness is important.”
“[TW: rape]
We do know something about most men who rape. For example, numerous studies have found that while they tend to be more emotionally constricted than nonaggressive men, and are often angry and hostile to women, most of them are psychologically “normal.” The psychologist David Lisak points out that the old stereotype of the rapist was derived in part from extensive studies with incarcerated rapists, many of whom committed acts of grievous violence against their victims, who were often strangers. But according to Lisak, research over the past twenty years clearly demonstrates that the vast majority of rapes are perpetrated by what he calls “undetected rapists,” and they usually know their victims. Undetected rapists are men who typically behave in stereotypically masculine ways, see sex as conquest, and are hypersensitive to any perceived slight against their manhood. But they are not crazy, and they are not sociopaths. “There is simply no evidence, save the rape itself,” Katharine Baker writes in the Harvard Law Review, “suggesting that all or even most rapists are objectively depraved.“ Chillingly, she goes on to say that given the social norms that encourage it, there is evidence that rape is “culturally dictated, not culturally deviant.””

I don’t know if y’all know this but Taylor Swift did a country remake of Earth Wind and Fire’s September and I don’t believe in the death penalty but for this I’ll make an exception
“The way to love someone is to lightly run your finger over that person’s soul until you find a crack, and then gently pour your love into that crack.”
I passed in by a family friend today. It turned out to be an unexpectedly emotionally cathartic experience. It’s good to know that even though there’s little they can do other than witness your journey throughout life, that there are people who see you and support you and want the best for you. It also reinforces that I’m not the only one who thinks my mother treats me like shit.
i’m on a cookie kick to close out today’s frenzy, guys — how AWESOME is copypastry’s JT cookie cutter?! tasty. scoop up one of justin, the rock, or get a custom one of you or your pet 😀
I went to fix my phone again and they still didn’t have iPhone 6 screens. They said tomorrow. It’s really challenging trying to conduct business with a big black bar over part of my keyboard. It’s a good thing I know my way around my phone. Muscle memory is a thing.
Someone had messaged me on Instagram a few days ago asking about a piece they had seen in my feed which had long sold. They asked if I’d be making more and i said I didn’t know when but I’d be sure to post when I did. She then asked the price range. I remember typing out the answer but I guess I didn’t hit send.
She messaged me this morning and asked if I was avoiding her questions and if my products were for “particular” customers? Then she went on to say that perhaps I answer according to profile status. And followed it by saying she had long admired my work but that my way of handling potential customers left her uncomfortable and she would essentially take her business elsewhere.
I was polite in my response explaining that I thought I had answered her and apologized. I also assured her that in no way do I pick and choose my customers and that I had been preparing for two markets and was overwhelmed and her response has merely slipped through that cracks as I handle all facets of the business myself. She answered that she understood, bless.
I was really kind of flabbergasted to receive a message like that. I’ve never had anyone message me in that tone before. Most people are quite patient and understanding and remind me if haven’t answered them. It happens rarely but there are times I don’t respond to people, usually Instagram because their notifications are shit. This woman’s profile was set to private so I couldn’t even see it anyway. And why would I want to pick and choose clients? Money is money I don’t care who buys my pieces. What a defensive attitude to walk through the world with.
I dropped my damn phone again. I can barely use it. I went to get it fixed and they’re out of screens. I have to go back tomorrow. Third time in like nine months. Each time it fell flat on the face. How the fuck does that happen? At this rate I could have gotten a new phone. Except I would have broken that too.
Korean street artist. Through his graffiti art, Shim realizes the ideal portrait of multiculturalism. It is not the unusual combination of a black woman wearing Korean traditional outfit, but how the two get along with each other effortlessly. The harmony in his murals suggests the direction our multicultural society should progress toward.
I passed out today and was woken up by a client messaging. My phone was on silent but the vibration of her multiple messages was enough to thoroughly wake me. I’ll never regret not giving out my number in my call cards or any social media. Imagine if every client actually called me? Ugh
The market today is going really slow. Few customers, low sales. When that happens all the vendors get restless and time seems to crawl. We have two and half hours. This is gonna be one of those days people pack up early. At this point everyone’s just happy if they made back the cost of their table.
I felt like such utter shit last night I was convinced I’d gotten the flu. But I woke up feeling normal his morning, just a little tired. Seriously body we need to have a talk.
lepidolite is a variety of mica and is typically pink or lavender colored. when tumbled it is extremely glittery – pictures don’t do it justice!
2) ulexite
ulexite is also called “tv rock” and has a super unique optical effect – when placed over something it displays that image onto the top of the rock. it’s not merely opaque – the fibers within the mineral literally project an image onto the surface of the stone.
3) pietersite
pietersite has chatoyancy – much like tiger’s eye – that creates movement and shine through the surface of the stone. however, unlike tiger’s eye, pietersite’s chatoyancy is in swirls instead of straight lines. it’s incredible to behold – i recommend looking up pietersite on youtube and checking out videos of it under good lighting.
4) optical calcite/iceland spar
this type of calcite is actually completely clear, but refracts the light going through it in ways that create rainbows and other neat optical effects. isaac newton himself actually studied this rock to help better understand the nature of light itself & the phenomenon of optical illusions.
5) alexandrite
alexandrite is a variety of chrysoberyl that exhibits a color change! it changes from a greenish hue to a brilliant red depending on the type of light and the source. the color changes in alexandrite are phenomenal and rarely seen in other stones.
6) spectrolite
don’t let the image fool you – this stone is actually pure black. the brilliant colors it exhibits are just a flash (it’s actually called labradorescence, which is what the stone labradorite is named for). spectrolite is an uncommon form of labradorite mined only from finland. some varieties of high quality labradorite from madagascar can show a spectrolite play, but nothing is as dark with as brilliant a flash as spectrolite.
7) specular hematite
specular hematite is a variety of hematite that has a beautiful, glimmering surface especially when polished. much like lepidolite, the shimmer of specular hematite is caused by mica.
8) boulder opal
boulder opal is ironstone with cracks of brilliant natural opal running through it. these formations are entirely natural. opal has the most brilliant and vibrantly colored flash of any other stone.
9) enhydro quartz
enhydro quartz is a variety of quartz that was formed with naturally occuring water & air bubbles within them! in some specimens the water bubbles will actually move underneath the surface of the crystal.
10) fire agate
fire agate is actually a form of chalcedony, and is well known for having a beautiful rainbow effect caused by schiller, rather than flash or labradorescence.
All the shiny! 💕
You guys have *NO* idea how much I love rocks.
I want all of them. The only one I have is Alexandrite.
“The way to love someone is to lightly run your finger over that person’s soul until you find a crack, and then gently pour your love into that crack.”
I think I’m actually coming down with something. I’m under three layers of covers with no fan or ac and I can feel the heat coming off my body and I’m not feeling hot. Some asshole gave me the flu or something. Aw fuck man. I’m gonna go to sleep. Maybe it’s a 12 hour bug. Haha as if.
I’ve been lying here trying to get up the gumption to change my clothes or wash my face or something and I can’t move. I don’t know why I’m so tired. And my body really hurts. Sort of like when you have the flu except I’m not sick. I’m still wearing pants for God’s sake. I’m gonna die in these clothes.
We’re all set up at The Market by @TTChatterbox! Our table is INSIDE (in the cool 😎 AC). We’re at the Trinidad Theater Workshop on Newbold St., St. Clair.
Behold the stunning beauty of this raw aquamarine. Set in a sterling silver band, accompanied by two stacking rings (y’all have no idea how long it took me to get all three lined up #thankyoutweezers), I’ll be sending these to a lovely bride 👰 soon. I really need to make myself one of these… .
